3/4 crew -- still awesome animals
A review of Animal Collective posted by eoinmatt77 on October 22, 2008 9:24 PM
When: Apr 26, 2008 Venue: coachella Where: indio for some reason AC was booked to play in one of the two smaller tents. needless to say, the tent was pretty packed. the band did their own setup (the Union of Roadies must have it in for AC at this stage... no work here roadies!!!) and avey tare (aka dave portner) spent what seemed like close to 15 minutes jacking his thumbs in the air trying to get the sound engineers to get the volumes up. lots and lots more twiddling, thumb-jacking, and we were ready to go. set list was as follows (thanks to the awesome dude on coachella boards for posting this): 1. Chocolate Girl 2. Comfy In Nautica 3. House (Material Things) 4. Bearhug 5. Fireworks --> Essplode --> Fireworks 6. Brother Sport chocolate girl was an interesting intro but they went straight onto an awesome rendition of panda bear's comfy in nautica with noah giving as good vocally as you hear on the album. frankly, that's a tall order on the best of evening. house and bearhug (both new to me followed) and seemed like works in progress which is what AC live is all about. then a nice move to fireworks (check out my shaky video) which blew the tent. the finale of brother sport was pretty incredible -- simply put, this track was the highlight of coachella 2008 -- again, i have some video footage but it's hard to explain how beautiful this track was live. kicked ass. since AC's fans are awesome, bootlegs abound online but AC live is just something that has to be witnessed first-hand. great stuff. bummer that sound issues probably cut a track or two off the set (probably grass, winter's love, and banshee beat --- yep, i'm sure those were the three they would have played). awesome night.
