more voyeurism than a concert

it's aphex twin and, with rare exceptions, his "live" performances involve him sitting behind his gear just doing whatever he wants. but then again -- it's coachella! so you hope he will do more. but he didn't.

frankly afx blew badly for me at coachella. it was cool for the novelty of seeing the man but i'm not 16 any more so that novelty carries about 45 seconds of punch and then it's gone.

i'm not going to rehash the set in detail but it meandered through some admittedly cool mixing, drum n bass showmanship, and a solid finish with the dancing animals joining him on stage. but the visuals were run of the mill (i think they were provided by goldenvoice) and the set didn't see afx take on some of his own material.

i'd see him again because he's awesome but given the videos chris cunningham and others have made for afx tunes, one has to hope that he'd bring the visual flair to the live set.

you are right! there is at the end. "this is a journey..."... cheap trick indeed. but then again, the sample is so widely used because that old BBC voice sounds so.. well BBC like. nice clip. thanks.
