orbital reunion -- the oc visit

orbital is a rarity among electronic acts in that i can take their best album (In Sides) and share with anyone without wondering if they will like it. That's because In Sides is a genre-breaking and is just plain great music.



Better still is the Orbital live experience (or sadly, was since the band broke up a few years back). Orbital was one of the first electronic groups to play "live". They'd dance behind their banks of equipment with cool litte lights on their heads bobbing up and down. And if you ever wondered how those lights became popular, yes it was because of Orbital.

Orbital consists of brothers Phil Hartnoll and Paul Hartnoll and the band lasted from 1989 to 2004. at their peak, they headlined glastonbury and most of the major european circuits. their live shows set the bar for what electronic acts could do
with giles thacker designing and controlling video elements in the live shows. incredible stuff. their live sets would combine their anthem songs like Chime, Belfast, the Dr Who cover (toward the end), alog with tracks like Halcyon that pulled samples from popularish culture (Bon Jovi, Belinda Carlisle) into the tracks.

i know i'd love to see the Hartnolls get back together for one last Orbital effort. it really help show kids today what preceded the defining shows like Daft Punk and may well better them if Orbital's history is anything to go by. Let's make it happen.
