3 weeks in

The first 3 weeks of NotPaul have been fantastic — thanks to everyone for trying something new and for pursuing your passion for exceptional live music. The site has seen lots of fantastic concert concepts, lots of interesting show reviews, and tons of real bids… more than we’d hoped for in the first few weeks on all fronts.

We’ve been very busy (and quiet!) these past few working on a big update to the site that adds a whole new set of features. More on that next week. On that note, we’ll call out some of the stuff that’s been inspiring us recently:

- Beatport’s (www.beatport.com) amazingly fast flash music player is the best I’ve ever seen and has been inspiring us for a while; and don’t forget their amazing catalogue which you should start perusing if you have not already ($1.99 for a high-fidelity wav - it’s the deal of the century).

- Element Labs Helix (http://www.elementlabs.com/Helix.html) is something that you’ve almost definitely seen first hand if you’ve been to any major shows in the past few years. This is newsworthy only for the fact that things will change a lot on this front. Expect live displays to get a whole lot more impressive in the next 3 to 5 years. We know but we can’t tell.

- Music this week: Kid 606 has a new album out which is great but so does Senor Coconut which is awesome beyond typing. If you want to hear Daft Punk’s “Around the World” reinterpreted to samba sounds, look no further; our friend Uwe has it covered (the rest of the album is even better):

Is there an embeddable price-comparison widget out there?

Until soon,

Day 1 of NotPaul: October 25, 2008

NotPaul has been a long time coming: 3+ years in the works. So today we’re really delighted to release NotPaul v1 and we hope our dedication to the ideas behind NotPaul is evident in the site itself. Jeff, Isaac, and I have really enjoyed bringing NP to fruition.

NP is first and foremost about the creativity of fans - we want NotPaul to be a forum for fans to share the creativity inspired in them by the art they follow. There are multiple facets to that pursuit and what we launched today is just a first phase: NotPaul v1 is about making the live show a collaborative process between the performer and the fans so that it can be the most engaging experience possible.

We’ll use this blog to talk about some cool stuff we’re trying and anything inspiring we come across. We’ll be inviting some great folks to contribute to the NotPaul blog who will be able to share insights into what it takes to put together the very best live shows.

Feel free to drop us any of your feedback or questions. And thanks for checking in with us…

  • Tom: Wow -- the only site on the web where I can "buy" Led Zeppelin tickets. Really cool site. Great job.
